This Shrimp Packs a Punch

The peacock mantis is colored olive green, orange and red, with leopard spots on its deadly forelimbs. Adult members of this species can chip or even smash the glass of an aquarium.

This was so interesting. I hear that mantis shrimps can be quite violent but I didn't know that it could smash through glass. I actually think that the mantis shrimp looks a lot like a pistol shrimp. But I always thought that shrimp could not even dent anything, let alone smash through it. It is amazing how certain animals have a unique way of fighting or surviving. I am not getting one if I ever get an aquarium. I always thought that humans are quite strong, but a tiny little shrimp can smash through glass? That is very weird and scary. What would be interesting is if two mantis shrimp would fight against each other, but who would win? All in all, amazing article and I am never going to buy that shrimp if I ever get an aquarium.

Wow! This article was so cool! I had actually never heard of mantis shrimps and I was really surprised to know that it can smash through glass. I guess it has a pretty hot temper (like some people I know ;)). Even five pairs of rubber gloves is not too tough for a mantis shrimp!!! Kinda creepy...
Also, the mantis shrimp's eyes are so cool! It also looks really amazing and weird.

I rate this article an A+.

P.S. Jahan, what is a pistol shrimp? :)

I was also very disappointed at the videos. I thought they would show the mantis shrimp attacking things, but they were just sitting there the first two videos. The third one was supposed to be of a mantis shrimp eating like a snail or a crab or something (I don't remember), but it was super pixelated and dark and I couldn't see anything.

Even though I gave the article an A+, I just remembered the videos and I rate them a D, which will probably lower the overall rating to like a B- or something.

I totally agree with sammie on the video I thought that this was really scary. I mean come on, what kind of shrimp breaks through glass. We are going to have to change the nickname "shrimp" (a person who is short and weak), to ant, I mean I don't think ants can hurt you that bad!

To respond to sammie, a pistol shrimp is a type of shrimp that is louder than a blue whale. The link is attached: https://www.google.com/search?q=pistol+shrimp&aq=f&sugexp=chrome,mod=15&ie=UTF-8.

This is pretty much exactly like the ant article. Something so small can create so much damage. It's almost like this shrimp is fake, even though I know that it's not. I already knew about this shrimp, but it was still really, cool.

This is amazing! I didn't know that shrimps could be so powerful! The shrimp must have evolved a lot. Are the shrimp very territorial or something? Yeah, I don't think it would be very good for two mantis shrimps to fight each other if they are powerful enough to brak glass. I wonder why mantis shrimps are called mantis shrimps. Are they like praying mantis in a way? It is also really cool that the mantis shrimp can see really well with its huge eyes. This was so cool!

This is really cool. It is amazing how a 3 inch mantis shrimp can be so powerful. It broke through glass. I have never heard of this animal. They shrimp mantis look fake, but they are actually not. Their colors make them look cartoonish. I think the name of the animal does not suit it's characteristics. It shouldn't be called a shrimp becasue that means it is small and weak. Overall I give this article an A-.
