It was interesting. But this is bad. Very bad. Very very very bad. Because since these things have been released, despite Obama's attempt to strengthen gun laws, people with a criminal record could buy these, make a gun, make an unlimited amount of bullets, make the bullet holder HUGE, and then, well, all chaos breaks loose.

Wow Weston is right. Many bad things can come out of this including guns and bullets. Many chaotic things might happen if somebody gets a hold of this contraption. However, the video on the girl having a problem with the joints in her arms was good because the printer made an endless amount of her types of casts.

This is amazing. I never even dreamed about something like this. $1,000 is pretty cheap for something this great. I think that this creation will start to spread across the world, and maybe they will have them in hospitals for emergencies. I agree with Weston in basically every way. President Obama is trying to stop gun usage, and this will make it worse. People can "print" endless bullets, like he said, and endless guns. They can sell them for really cheap, and then everyone can have one. Some people say that they can have a gun for protection, but the makers of this printer are right; these items shouldn't be used to make weapons, or illegal items. Even replicas of illegal items shouldn't be made, because they can scare people.
I don't know much about guns, but would they really be able to make a gun that shot? It would probably just make a gun that had no moving parts, so therefore they could print bullets, but not guns that worked.
There is a positive look to this printer as well. Sometimes people need to get something to help them move, like Emma. This is great for helping them get the pieces quickly.
What materials are used for printing in the printer? Can you print with metal? That would be pretty cool if you could!
I liked this article/video a lot! I give it an A+!

Wow! Who would have thought that they would make a 3D printer! Next they are going to make a holographic phone. When they do... This is proof that I truly do know everything. This is a great invention and a life changing invention too. It helps kids like Emma and maybe this will grow to become a world renown thing.
As Elena said, 1,000 dollars is pretty cheap for something like this, but I think the price will grow once more people know. I think the price will rise fast if they raise the price when it becomes more popular because who wouldn't want to own a 3D printer?
But this is bad. People are able to create guns as everyone else said. They are also able to make some illegal items. What if someone creates the ultimate machine gun? This printer is life changing--it can save someone or cost them their life. It brings shivers down my spine that someone is able to make basically whatever they want.
That might be just the opposite though. The person said there are some limitations, so maybe a gun is one of them... or bullets. Maybe everything we worried about, they already thought about it and restricted it to make things like that. But what I wonder about is if I am right, how will the machine know that something is a gun or a bullet or something like that. OK so bye!

I agree with everything said. If these things get into the wrong hands, it could be a bad story ending for us. If it is so easy to make things using a printer, it should cost more. There are pros and cons. I think that the creators only thought about the pros and not the cons.

I agree with everything that was already said. This is a great, new invention ready to be explored, but what would it take to find out the bad things that can happen? As others have said, somebody coud create a lethal weapon to start horrible things, but on the other hand, it can help people and save lives. On the video with the article, there was a little girl who had muscle problems in her arms, but with the help of fast 3-D machines, a brace was made to help her move. I really learned a lot about new technology and I would like to know more about it.

I think that this is a really cool device, but it could be bad... and it is not going to help the economy. I think that it is useless because it can only make things with certain materials such as plastic and wax. I think that it can be bad for the economy because companies are spending so much time and money to make something, and one person can buy just one, and make hundreds more. I think that it can also be dangerous, like many other people said, because of weapon usage. I think it could be good when it comes to things like the little girl and REX.

Even though I brought in the article and have read it many times, I'll still start out with the same opening sentences that everybody writes. Wow! That was amazing!! That was an interesting article. I agree with everybody before me. At first I thought that this was revolutionary and everyone will benefit off of this invention, but after reading the article my mind has been changed. If for a project for school someone builds a 3D model of something on a computer, instead of turning it in as a computer file they can send the file to a 3D printer and turn in the file as a real-life scale model. Also, if in the future a 3D scanner came out, someone can take a real-life object, scan it, and make multiple copies. Or they can make adjustments to the object and print out the improved object, then make copies of that. So far, 3D printers print with some sort of plastic and very few colors and very slowly, but in the future evolved 3D printers may produce any type of object made out of any type of material, in any color, very fast; and if 3D scanners become reality they may be able to scan different types of material, different colors, and if they are very advanced, maybe X-ray scan the object to see what the colors and materials are inside of the object. If 3D printers in the future are mass-produced, they would put many manufacturers and vendors out of business. Instead of making a material, you can 3D print a material. Instead of buying a product, you can 3D print a product. On second thought, obtaining objects for free that would normally cost money would be illegal with 3D printers. People could also scan and copy objects many many times and make lots and lots of money from nothing. Most shops would be closed because everyone would be printing products for free instead of going to a store and buying products. Having a 3D printer (a futuristic and improved one) is sort of like having an endless supply of everything. Which brings me to my next point. Bad people could misuse this privilege and produce things that could be dangerous if put into the wrong hands, like weapons. This new invention is fascinating and very useful, but it is also very unsafe if misused.

Mr. Sewell mentioned this in class, so when I saw the article, I was like "Wow, 3D printers!" I never thought that they could be used for bad things. Then again, maybe making things that normally you would have to buy might be considered illegal. There are just so many things that could be considered illegal about this . . . if it was mass produced we would probably see a big increase in murders and other bad things. Also, if these printers malfunctioned that plastic might be able to kill someone. Not good. Although I do admit it can be helpful, like in that girl's case, this should NEVER be mass produced. If you have got one take major precautions to make sure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. This was an amazing article but it also made me think about some things that I don't want to think about.

I see how eventually when this becomes a more elaborate printer, it could cause problems, but I put emphasis on the could. Think about it. Most people who can afford this are sane, unless a rich person goes insane. And some people have said some crazy gun, but really, how do you make a gun that is more dangerous. Fire? I just do not get it. This is better for good then for bad in my opinion. That little girl had something created that could not be created by humans. For all the things that cannot be created by humans but only be thought, it can create it. Think about all the elaborate designs that this thing can make so that it can design elaborate things that can help people with weird muscle disorders in Emma's case, or for any other weird sort of diseases or brain malfunctions. Overall, I would have to say that this is an amazing idea, invention, and could help save lives.
