Edheads Interactive - The Compound Machine

I think that this game has some science involved like gravity, forces, and energy but some of its aspects are not possible. This game made me think a little at times. I would have liked something that had a little more to do with science like Newtons three laws to clarify the force of gravity. Over all I give this game a B.

Finn said...

That was boring, and I didn't learn anything. Everybody knows gravity and most of the answer was that, so i did not teach me anything at all.

I think that this game was cool. I learned about gravity forces and energy thought we have already done this activity I learned that a compound machine in a cartoon form makes a really good pass time if you want to get out of going to bed. This taught some science but I would have liked to watch or done something that is more interesting and more science that taught me some more things and helped me more. From Venice, Italy or Paris, France depending on what day you read this, goodby from Sophia.

This game was fun but I knew most of the stuff it was asking you about. On the next blog we should have an edheads because there fun but it should be about bacteria. If this was about what we were learning it would be a lot more fun. To sum it up it was a good game but boring in the facts.

I agree with Finn. This game could have been much more interesting if they talked more about Newtons three laws of gravity etc. It was fun, but not really educational. Like, why try to find your toilet plunger and fine a secret door? What is the point of that?

Grace C. said...

I disagree with Annie. The game was really fun and I enjoyed playing it. The toilet plunger aspect was a little bit inappropriet, but it made the game much more interesting. The question that was about the pulley was the hardest question in this exercise. I didn't understand why A was the correct answer. Adam, speaking of what you said about "B", the answer to almost all of the questions was B or Gravity. I think they should have included things about friction, not just gravity because friction is just as cool. Ms Ghazarian, this game was much more interesting than the other games you have put from this website. This one was fun and taught you all about forces and gravity at the same time! It did not take too long, and I enjoyed playing it.

I think this game was fun, but not very educational. As Finn said, I didn't learn anything although some of the questions were a little confusing.

This game was also not very realistic. I mean, why would somebody make all that just so a robot arm could fix their toilet?

This game was 1 part weird, 1 part odd, and 2 parts generally useless. Give us something we don't know already. Is there anyone who hasn't heard of Issac Newton and his apple? And that was basically it. The answer to almost everything was gravity. Still, like Sammie said, it's a lot of work just so a robot arm will fix your plunger. It reminds me of those Renn Graynolds machines. Remember how everything was, like, falling and going up and rolling? And then, at the end it activates four paint guns, and the men get splattered with paint again. I think that I will replay this game and try to find the types of energy in the big machine. For example, the fan scene with the bathtub and boat? The fan would be electrical energy converted to kinetic energy. Anyways, this game is interesting, and it can get you out of having to go to sleep, but it's not really educational or anything. Happy New Year from Guatamala! (I'm home now, but I was in Guatamala on January 1st.)

I didn't really benefit from this game because like everybody here, I should know the questions that were asked. This is not to say that the game wasn't interesting, it just didn't teach me anything new. I think that this is a good practice not to forget the energy unit. But I really agree that this game was weird. In real life, you probably won't run into a situation like this.

Overall I wasn't really impressed with this game.

This game was a little bit boring. It had some science aspects but, like Adam said, some of them are not possible. But if I was a beginner, then this game would give me some knowledge of gravity. In my perspective, this game was boring and not entertaining.

Sammie said...

I agree with Sabina. I did not benefit from this game at all, although some games are fun just because they are easy. If you listened to anything Ms. Ghazarian ever told you about gravity, you should not have to figure out anything new. Part of what I like about the Edheads games is that they make you think, but I already knew exactly what I needed to do in each situation in this game. Also, like Gracie said, most of the questions were either B or Gravity. It didn't teach me much about most things other than gravity. For example, I would have liked to learn more about friction.

Overall I would give this game a B-.

I thought this game was cute but not very beneficial to my science studies. Although this game is not good for our level and age group, it might be better for less informed about this topic. Overall, I think this game is just not right for me.

Stanford said...

I agree with everyone about it being for a lower level than us, but it would be helpful information for other kids. Ms. Ghazarian already taught us about gravity in the robotics unit. I did think it was cute but I don't think it's for us.

I found this game a great learning experience for most ages. I said most because personally I found it very easy. I mean it says grades 2-6 but I think its more like 2-4. I agree with Annie that if it was a game for 6th graders it should teach them or explain to them about the Newtons Laws and physics. Plus if I didn't know anything about the types of energy (gravitational and other potential and kinetic energies) I would be very confused. They explanations were awkward and unclear in some cases. So in my opinion this game would be great for younger grades, not for older.

Ian said...

This game was very creative. I love all the examples that they give you of all the different types of energy. My only complaint is that it was too easy. At first I clicked random answers and eventually got it right. Still, by the end, I got 110/120. If I was trying at all, I could have gotten 120/120.

Ian said...

To clarify: I thought the ideas were creative and fun, but it was an overall boring game. (my other complaint)

In my opinion, this game wasn't at the level of science that we are at. We learned all of this in lower school, so I didn't learn anything new or interesting. I would have liked the game much more if there was more in detail about more advanced related concepts or more advanced detail about the simple machines and gravity and friction.

Mila said...

When I played this game it was to young like Aiden said this was to beginnerish i would have liked something more challenging that i can actually learn something from, this game was like a review from Room 2. All in all i didn't learn any information from this and I think they should second to fourth grade not second to sixth grade like faith said.

I think that this game was a little like the useless machine video that we saw in class. Though I learned some things in this game, mostly I knew everything that was going on, including gravity. But, exactly how did he know where the rocket was going to land. It's not like you know exactly where the rocket stops and at what angle it goes down unless you have done it before which obviously he didn't. I'm also kind of confused about why they asked you more than one-quarter of the questions there about gravity.

Bryan said...

This is one of the first EdHead games that I actually really enjoyed. It taught us forces and when they act in real life. Of course this whole machine wouldn't actually be built in real life, but it was a very creative way to teach us the forces of gravity, friction, etc. Although this was very interesting, they didn't explain everything so well that you get it completely. It seemed as you just had to get the right answer. Most of the answers were gravity anyway. Besides the forces, it also taught s chain reactions which are the causes of gravity, friction, etc. This would be a great game for rooms 3 to 5 but a little bit immature for upper schoolers. Overall, a very entertaining game.
