This was such a sad documentary. You would see birds that were all black and were about to die if they were not cleaned up immediately. The pelicans looked so pained and were harmed by the oil. It really shows that oil, which is used so much, seems to really affect animals, especially marine animals. Now that our technology is so advanced and we have good ideas on how to clean the birds, we can clean them, even though it is stressful to the birds, and let them live without worrying about oil on the birds. This is a great movie, and I think that this was very descriptive. I would give it an A++

I am on the same page as Jahan, saying that the video was sad. It really broke my heart that many animals, especially helpless birds, die often because of oil in the water that they fish and swim in. Even the fact that many birds and animals are saved didn't make me feel better about the situation that many others are in, and also made me think about all the animals that are in pain right now. But, I really did think that this video was very educational and makes you think about all the hard work people go through to clean these animals and help them, and how great it is that the people care about them. If you really think about it, these people probably don't get a lot of money for what they do, but they do it because they love caring for birds and animals. Watching this video and seeing the amazing work that people do to help these animals makes me want to help, too, and possibly sign up for something like this (at least, when I am old enough to).
The only thing that I didn't like about the video was the fact that they didn't really go into the process of cleaning the birds, only that they use dish-soap to clean them. I do wish that the video also got into the topic of what other animals are being affected by oil spills, not just birds.
Altogether, even without the extra things that would've made it a little better, this was a very informative video and it definitely made me have a new perspective on how horrible oil spills really are and what people can do to help the animals that are caught in the middle of them. :-)

This video, while it was sad and depressing, was actually a pretty good documentary of what is happening to animals. Animals can't control anything about their lives, humans are dominant and they can't talk, at least to us. We can keep them as pets, just cause we feel like it, and we can tear down their natural habitat just cause we feel like it. It's true, there some people, like the people in this video, who think that it's important to be aware of what's happening to animals. But think about, they are basically trapped living near the ocean, flying over everyday to catch fish, and that's pretty much their life. They can't move to another place, unless humans somehow arrange it for them, and they can't do anything is something has gone wrong in their habitat. I don't know if anybody else feels this way, but this video is, just in a way, just a tiny bit, like a the persuasive speeches that we are writing in english. I mean they aren't saying that we have to do something about it, but they are hinting that we should, which is like a call to action, and they are also showing us sad pictures of bids covered with oil, which is using fear. This video definitely got me thinking about the poor animals who have to suffer through oil spills. We are choosing to help them, but most people probably wouldn't decide until they learned more about it. I was absolutely help an organization like this. I really hate to think that oil is the cause of these birds deaths. It's just really sad. People need to start recognizing what is happening to animals even if it seems like things aren't affecting us. Like Eva said, they should probably say something about the other animals who's habitats are getting affected by oil spills.
Overall, I think that this video said a lot about what is happening to animals and how we have to help them. I honestly thought that this video was really inspiring. I wish that the video could have 100,000,005 views instead of 105. People really need to find out about what is going on on the planet.

That was a very short yet informative video. The video showed how much the oil effects the wild animals. It is very sad to think that all these animals could be harmed. The birds were helpless and full of oil. I think that it is very nice of these people to use their summer cleaning up the oil. Since the video was very short, there is not much to talk about.

This was a very sad video. These helpless birds are being killed because the oil industry is more keen on getting attention, and the economy, than protecting wild life. They should have to pay a $500 fine for every bird that dies. This video should have talked and shown more about how to clean up these birds.

I thought that this was really sad, but interesting. It makes you wonder if you are really doing enough for your community. Things you do don't necessarily have to be as large as saving a bird from an oil spill, but little things count too. The birds were practically black, which is devastating and difficult to watch, because there were so many. I really honor and respect the workers who are working with the animals, cleaning them and taking care of them, because if they weren't there, the animals probably wouldn't be saved. It's also sad that the babies were separated from their parents. I do wonder if there is a certain age limit the birds have to be to be released, because some aren't used to the wild yet. I hope that they can get back to their homes.
And I agree 1,000 times with Izzy; this video only has 111 views, and it should have millions. If people actually cared enough about these animals' lives, they would look around, and find places to help. The world would be nowhere without the great scientists and doctors that work to help cure diseases that are believed to not be curable, and the firefighters and policemen that help protect our country.
Oil spills are things that can be prevented, but while training your workers, and building your tankers, take a second to think about the animals that will be affected if you build the tanker wrong, or train your workers poorly. These animals, I'm sure, aren't the only ones affected, and I'd like to know about more animals that are affected, and learn about more ways to stop them from being harmed.

This was a great video; it was short, but rich with information, and I give it an A+.

I agree with everyone when they say that this documentary was very sad. It is terrible that the black pelicans are in so much pain form the oil spills. The scrubbing, hot water, and transportation must be so hard to deal with for the pelicans and the humans. It must be especially hard trying to help a pelican in 10 days because I would think you would need a good two weeks at the least. I also found it very interesting that of all things in the world, dishwashing soap works the best for cleaning the animals. I would think that scientists had come up with a complicated formula that separates the oil from the skin, fur, and feathers of the animals. I am glad that they figured out solutions for these innocent animals.

Though the video was short, it was rich with facts and emotional impact. It was a little bit depressing how must the oil affects a pelican's life. Also, how DAWN can clean up the animals is amazing.
I agree completely with Izzy. Pelicans and many other marine animals can't control when an oil spill happens. Basically, they just wait for someone to come and help them. If Eva could really volunteer like she says in her comment, I would go with her because it is important to help the animals. Elena is completely right because people really should care about what happens to animals, not just to them.
This video was really educational as well has kind of helpful. It gave you information on how we can actually help these animals. I would like to find out about what other kinds of animals are being cleaned up and how they do that.
Overall, I enjoyed the facts and the general idea of this video. A+ for you!

That was really sad. I just think that not enough people know about this. Maybe if more people knew, they would help the cause. So many people just sit and use oil, and they have no idea that somewhere, animals, animals who have done nothing to hurt us, are paying the price. I wonder how they are going to clean up the younger birds. The movie said that the cleaning was too stressful for some birds. Would the younger birds die? Also, I think we should devote more time to make technology for cleaning up wildlife. This movie was very descriptive and I give it an A.

This was a very interesting video. It is so sad that all these birds and animals could easily die from the oil. If a little fish eats something that has oil on it then it can die. If a bigger animal eats that then they die. So on So on. If a bird eats a fish or a crab that ate a fish then the bird dies. It was so cool how the ONLY way to clean the birds is to use Dawn dish soap. Over all this video was very cool and interesting. I give it an A-.

This was so sad, those helpless animals could have died because of that oil spill. There are probably many who did die, which is a sad thought because all of the animals do not know what is going on. When they were cleaning all of the birds up, you could see how sad they were. In the video, when it shows some of the birds, you can see the oil. It was hard for me to see some oil on the brown pelican, but that is because it blends in or because they got all of the oil out. Like Eva said, I think they should have gone into the process on how to clean the animals. This video has encouraged me to go and learn more about this and I think I might look up the age requirements, so if I am old enough and there is an oil spill, I can help out.
I can't believe dish soap is one of the only things that can take out oil. The Dawn soap company is probably proud that their product is helping the environment. They should put that in their advertisements, so all of those environmentally friendly people would buy Dawn over another dish soap like Gain. Dawn is also probably happy because their product is selling well, maybe not that happy because the reason is probably because many oil spills are happening around the world, but I bet Dawn is selling more that when they started out. I think that this video informed me of how important it is to help the environment and to do whatever I can.
Oil spills also would affect us humans because it affects the fish we eat and then when we eat it, something bad probably happens. That actually is a pretty good question, what happens when we eat contaminated food? Do we get food poisoning? Ya... Probably. See that? I just answered my own question :o. *Thank god I don't eat fish, who wants food poisoning?*
I also wonder what people can do if they aren't old enough to volunteer or can't because they are too old to drive a car or in some exotic country no one knows about and they don't have enough money to go to the place the oil spilled? Can they send in money to buy the supplies? I think that may help them immensely because when we were cleaning up our mini oil spill the prices were pretty high, but I just thought of something else. Since the person is too poor to come to the place the oil has spilled, the person obviously doesn't have enough money to give to the clean up crew, so what does the person do? Do they just sit back and watch from a live cam that someone has set up for them and give the crew advice that they don't take because they don't trust the man, yet they let him watch? <---- very detailed. I think there should be a post on the next blog on what we can do to help.

This video was really sad. It was short, but had a lot of information. It is amazing how the slightest bit of oil can affect so many people. Krill could eat the oil and fish can eat the krill and we eat fish. A lot can happen. It is so sad that the birds can dye really easily from oil if there are not washed properly and right away. Oil has such a pig affect on wildlife and the food chain. The bird are just helpless. The bird are getting killed for more money or the economy. That is not good. Overall I give this video an A-

This was so heartbreaking to watch. These poor innocent animals have to go through this just because someone was being careless. These animals could have died from the oil like swallowing it or being stuck to it. If I was in the situation of the people who helped clean them, I wouldn't think that I'm wasting my time at all. I wouldn't think that it was taking up my summer, or there were too many hours. I would actually have fun with the animals and think how I just saved a precious life. Overall, heartbreaking but touching.

I think this was extremely sad about the wildlife and how they die and need people to help them. I think its great how people volunteer to help because the animals really need it. I think they should keep researching how to clean the pelicans in the most efficient way. The dish soap may be good, but they need a lot better to save all the wildlife affected by the spill. I think this was a great video overall and I rate it an 8/10.

I enjoyed this article because I really like animals and I appreciated the work that the people do for these birds. I understand that even if the process hurts the birds, they wouldn't survive without the treatment. I think that it is really cool that we are learning about this in class, and later to be rescuing a "bird" from the oil. The video was very descriptive. I was amazed that peoples jobs are helping the wildlife when they are harmed by oil. I think they are great people. It also is cool that you could possibly sign up to help. (like what Izzy said) I might do it when I am older. The only thing that I wish they did a better job on is that they showed and talked about how they use dish soap to clean them, but they didn't really show the process in which it has to be done. They also should have included more about other animals getting effected by oil spills and not JUST birds. Even though there were a couple things I would have liked them to put, I think that it really did make me think in the birds perspective. They are so effected by these oil spills, yet it takes forever to clean up their homes and habitats. Overall, I like this video and thought that what they were doing was the right thing. :)

I think it is sad what happens to these birds and all of the wildlife that depends on the ocean for food during these terrible oil spill. The first thing is that it is, like Sington said, amazing that these people would give up a summer to help these birds live. It is heartwarming that we still have these fantastic people among us. It is fantastic that they weren't even assigned to do it! They took time out of their everyday schedules to help. Another thing has to do with the food chain. Not just the food chain but also fish traders. (I will come back to that a little bit later). Plankton absorb the oil. Smaller fish eat the plankton. Bigger fish eat the smaller fish. Even bigger fish eat those bigger fish. Then we eat those fish and we get contaminated. Back to the fish sellers. Their whole business is to sell these fish which they get from the gulf. During the spill, all these small business owners went out of business if they were even near the town of Venice, Louisiana. Their whole business depends on being able to get these fish clean so they can sell them. Besides other terrible affects on the economy, it also stops a whole business. Another question I have is, is Dawn Soap really the only thing that can stop it. Don't we have amazing technology? Also, like Savannah said, it gives them lots of free promotion. (ad) Dawn soap. The only soap used to clean up oil spills. (not ad) We probably have people a lot smarter than the average person that, if they put their mind to it, could find a faster, better, and more efficient clean-up method. It should probably be faster than soaking every single bird in the water. That is slower than the winner of a race between 2 snails! I really think that we are better than dish soap. Overall this video was sad, and happy. I give it a 94 out of 100 which would be an A.

I think that it is quite sad that someone has to have cleaning up oiled birds as a living. This implies, that there are enough spills in the world, for someone to have that as their job! I think that the reason the dish soap worked fairly well, is because people use that soap to clean the oil off their pots, pans, dishes, bowls, etc., so it would work well to clean oil off a bird. It looked like the bird was striving to get out of the humans' reach, and the bird looked like it was in much pain because the humans were holding on to their beak so tightly, while they were squirming in between the two humans cleaning it. This video really was helpful for our duty to clean our (fake) bird. I think this video was pretty informative, and interesting.

This video was very sad. I do not like to see animals suffering, especially when they can do nothing about it. I don't see how the only solution to cleaning these animals is just soap. It is obviously not the best cleaner to use because it has been 20 years and they are still being cleaned. This is a good lesson on how serious oil spills are and how we can help the animals that are affected by it. This helps us learn about the different effective ways to clean up oil. I thought this video was very interesting and very informative.

This is so sad! :(
I agree with Miles, I love animals, and especially birds! They are so cute and to see them dying because of oil is so sad! I wish that cleaning them would help more.
This taught me about how we are going to clean our fake bird. I had no idea what Ms. Ghazarian was talking about, but I knew that we were helping it live. I didn't know how. This was very sad but interesting. Like Chloe said, it is pretty sad to clean birds as a living from oil. Can you imagine doing that yourself. But then think about the bird. These people are being really nice. I rate this video a B+ because of it's sadness. It would be an a- or an a but it was too sad to watch.

Like everybody else, this video was sad, but it gives the oiled birds a new chance at life because they are being cleaned and sent to a different location that Louisiana. Is Dawn dish soap "Bird friendly?" I mean, it does clean up the oil off the birds but I wonder if there are other ways to clean them. Also, I am happy that there are people trying to help these unfortunate birds and it is really interesting to learn about the process and what happens in an oil spill. I learned what oil spills can do to damage the environment and how hard it impacts wildlife. I would really like to contribute to help clean up this oil spill and learn more about it. This was a really good, educational article!

This was interesting. It is strange that the only way we can clean birds is by using dishwasher soap. It is great that we have people who are volunteering to do this, because this is probably saving a lot of birds. I knew that oil spills affected animals, but is is crazy how many birds lives were changed because of this oil spill. That was an informative video, and helped me learn how many birds are being affected by oil spills.

Aiden said...

It's definitely sad to see all of the oiled birds suffer, but it also makes me wonder: why isn't there technology for helping the birds? The workers there were rubbing the pelicans clean with plain dish soap, it looked very stressful for the birds, and that is a very hard task for the people there. Why can't the birds go through a quicker and more effective process?

Sophia siad,

This video is heart breaking. I never thought that dawn would get oil out. It looks very stressful for the birds to have to be scrubbed for hours. This was a informative video and I learned a lot from it.

I think that this video was very very sad to watch. To see all the birds covered in oil and pitch black was painful. I loved how people took the time to clean up these birds, even though they most likely were not paid. That shows that they have a caring heart. Also, to disagree with Eva, they didn't "just use dish soap". They used Dawn which (if you've seen the commercials) besides being a dish soap, is actually made to clean up animals effected by oil spills. They even donate one dollar to wild life for every bottle you buy of Dawn. Overall, I give this article an A++!

This video was so sad. It was really awful to see how many birds were oiled - you could actually see the oil in their feathers.
Also, it made me sad to hear that washing the birds was so stressful to the birds that it could kill them. I noticed that the washers had to kind of clean each individual feather to get all the oil out. On the other hand, I think it is kind of cool that something as simple as Dawn soap can save birds' lives.

I rate this video an A+.
