An unbreakable touch screen! That's so cool. If it's less expensive and unbreakable then I think that everybody would buy it. That's so cool and interesting. I see all these cheap covers that Apple makes for iPhones, and they don't do much except that they keep marks from touching your screen. I think that thy need to make a case, and make it unbreakable. It would also have to look nice, because people don't buy stuff that looks terrible. It would be really cool because I know how everybody is buying cases that work well, just not well enough.
I think that it is cool that they found this material but this material has way more drawbacks than the screens we already have ever will. First of all the fact that it is incredibely excpensive is one thing but another is, is that it is only local to Japan. They don't even have proof that this is unbreakable and if this actually works the only people right now who would get this would be people in Japan. I think that they should have tested out before saying things that they don't know if it's true or not. I think that the it isn't the screen's fault that it breaks it is the owner's fault for taking care of the phone and being responsible. And not just touch screens have glass fronts flip phones and the old samsungs and blackberrys do to and you can drop those, so the fact that they are narrowing it done to only touch screens won't help a lot of the world because they don't have touch screens. I know for a fact that just because you have a touch screen doesn't mean you actually use it. My parents have the blackberry phone that has a touchscreen but they don't use the touchscreen because it comes with a keyboard. Allin all I think the people who found it are wasting there time trying to only help out modern people rather than people who like not that challenging to figure out phones. I don't think that people will by this because it is a waste of money and super expensive. And the majority of the world that don't have phones at all or touchscreen user will find this completely useless therefore this product that we don't know if it even works will fail trying to sell these. These products will not sell.
The idea of an unbreakable touch screen seems cool but the fact that its extremely expensive is not very good. Last year I did a 10 page research paper on touch screens and this did not seem like it would work. The article said that they were making rolls of these but when I was researching for my paper i read that touch screens consist of 4-7 layers and are not very expensive. The article says that the touch screens are unbreakable and they are very expensive. If they created some kind of stronger glass to cover the touch sensors that were cheap, there is no point in spending a lot of money on an unbreakable touch screen. Over all, this article was interesting but not very well thought out you could say.
Wow this is so cool to have an unbreakable screen, that's amazing! It would be so useful, but most of the companies that sell phones would not agree because they make a lot of money from people braking their phones every year.
Wow this is so cool to have an unbreakable screen, that's amazing! It would be so useful, but most of the companies that sell phones would not agree because they make a lot of money from people braking their phones every year.
This came out on the Korean news channel a few weeks ago, and I thought to myself... wow... a unbreakable screen... that sounds AMAZING! Someone like me would DEFINETLEY love on of those cases because I crack my phone so much. I think that it is cool because the screen would be able to endure the fall, without cracking or breaking. However... is there a requirement on how high the fall must be in order to NOT crack? Or is there a certain pressure limit that must be kept to not crack? @Mila, you mentioned that these screens would be more expensive... but it actually wont. If you re-read the article, it says towards the top that they will actually be CHEAPER than the screens we use now. I think that it is interesting that it is cheaper. Is it cheaper because the materials used for the making of it is cheaper? I think that may be the reason because the flip phones AREN'T touch screen, but they dont crack often, and they have a screen as well... maybe these scientists have found out a way to mix the screens on the iPhones and other touch screen smart phones, and the cheaper flip phones to make it both: endurable and touch screen. Overall, I thought that this article was very interesting, and that if they made this new screen, I would be one of the firsts to get it. :D
I think that it is amazing that in Korea some workers found a way to make an unbreakable touch screen for phones, TV's (with a flat screen), ipads, and computers. I think that this is cool but the touch screen my be indestructible but the glass is not. As I have seen on others peoples phones that they would have a cracked screen but and undamaged and unscratched cover. I think that this is a cool idea but has some minor issues with that glass being protected as well as the screen. One other problem (as Finn has stated) is that the companies that manufacture the screen covers will be anger because they make millions on people breaking there cases for there phones every year. From your class mate, Sophia, that is in Paris, France of Venice, Italy depending when you read this.
This "invincible" touch screen would be amazing. It could be sold in mass production and would help a lot of people with iPhones and iPods. Also, if someone dropped their device, it would not break. If someone accidentally hid a TV, the TV would not break. This could help very much in different uses. But like Adam said, this is way too expensive and would drain money. This would not be that useful, but still pretty useful.
Chloe you were corrects but it does not say that it is less expensive it says it COULD be less expensive. Maybe it could still be as expensive as what we have today or it could be more or less but you brought up a good point, if you drop it from high enough or have certain amount of pressure could it break?
Chloe, there is one exception...my brother. He has a flip phone...and it is broken and this is his 4th phone. I thought it was very interesting, and how it is cheaper. Why would it by cheaper? Is it because they think many people would by it so the product expense will be cheaper that the product sold? I learned that carbon nanotubes are a lot worse then a graphene screen. It is cool. :)
I think that this idea is really cool, but as Mila said, it definitely has flaws. Saying that it will be less expensive than the covers and screens that we use now is a complete lie; when they start being sold, the price will rise because everybody will want one of the "revolutionary screen covers" that are being presented to the public. And, although people do break their normal screens on iPhones and iPods very frequently, many people won't want to spend extra money for something that they already have. As said on the article, it's better to use a rubber or protective case before the graphene film screen comes out, but when it does come out, will people buy them, or will they just stay with their covers because they have been working all that time? This product is unpredictable and doesn't sound like it has been fully tested in a lab yet; saying that researchers have tried to move around and incorporate electrodes in the graphene film doesn't say or prove anything. I would definitely get a review from someone else before buying this product, when it comes out.
This is really cool. It seems like a good start, but cannot and probably will not be released to the public for a few years, if it is at all. But my big question for this whole article is "why"? Why is the graphene screens are more durable? Why do carbon nanotubes make long lasting batteries, and why do they have these glitches that make dead pixels. But it was pretty cool. Overall, I would say that this is pretty cool, but it will probably end up becoming a marketing ploy. The new "iscreen"
This is so cool! If a screen is unbreakable, than there would be no worries about dropping, stepping on, or damaging your screen. About what Sophia said, it is still possible to break the glass underneath the screen. I mean, what about the back of your phone, it is still possible to break that! Screen covers could also be a big downfall because there are whole companies dedicated to "giving you the better screen cover"! (not naming names here!!) Those companies would be put out of business because of the "revolutionary" graphene screen. I disagree with Chloe completely. Why would it be less expensive? Just because it is more durable??? Also, what you said is wrong. If there is a higher demand, the prices go up, and that is not the PRICE GOING DOWN!!!!! So, summing up what I have said, this screen could be the next big thing like 1D or Taylor Swift's newest album Red, but it could also fail completely.
This idea all and all is pretty cool. I'm really not a person who drops deices all the time, so my iPod screen is not cracked. Screen that are cracked can actually be quite dangerous because on a phone or really any device that cracks, the control board or the place that has little wires and little electric shocks going through it would be exposed. To be honest, even if certain people wouldn't be the target customers that this product was shooting for, I still think that they should buy it. I mean, it would be great to be holding a touchscreen device and not freak out about the fact that you could drop it. This actually might be a great idea for schools who wants to have iPads to teach the children, and with this screen the faculty won't have to worry about the kids dropping the iPads. I know that this sounds really ridiculous and all but it might be nice to not have a giant case that you have to lug around on your device and just have the device's natural (if it can be natural at all) beauty. There is a problem that this material might be very expensive and we would have to be constantly shipping it from Japan to the USA. THe cost probably will be an issue, but the shipping won't really matter because we get a lot of things from China, and a lot of things related to fashion of decor from cities in Europe. This could be a giant step for Apple, but then again it might not be because the inventors of this product don't know when it could actually come out. And, by the time it does come out, will people still be obsessing over Apple products as much as they are now? Overall, this products sound pretty cool.
I think that it is amazing that technology has gotten to the point were they were able to create an unbreakable touch screen. I personally, know from experience how easily regular touch screens break. My newest one broke recently, and it is really annoying how you have to buy a new one every month or so. Plus, like the article said, they are pretty expensive, and what do you accomplish by having to pay for a new touch screen really often? Nothing! That is why I am really happy that this unbreakable touch screen was invented. I hope that it will be in stores soon!
Interesting. It would be really nice if I didn't have to worry every single time I dropped my phone. Even so, my case and screen cover work perfectly fine. They're nice, and not too bulky. I have dropped my phone about 1,000 times, and it still hasn't broken. So I don't see why we need new touch screens. Also, like the "zombie" article, the title has people confused. I don't believe this new touch screen is actually unbreakable. It's just very strong. Even so, I politely disagree with Mila. The article says that this new material is cheaper, not more expensive. The author's girlfriend would probably want one of these, seeing as she keeps breaking her phone. This was a super cool article and I would like to know more.
Cool! I had no idea that this was discovered until now. This is a great invention and I can't wait to have this new touch screen come out on smartphones! I wonder if this touch screen will make phones more expensive or cheaper, because the article says it will be cheaper from the inexpensive and more common material, but since some people break their phone screen a lot (what the girlfriend did), then the new screen would be in high demand. Would that make the screen more expensive? I also found out that graphene is harder than diamond and can be much thinner so that is even better for the ultra slim iPhone and durability! Tis article is so cool and I would love to find out more about this screen and how it will evolve as technology advances.
Interesting. I mean, this product would be really useful, but the article doesn't say exactly how strong it is. The article just says it's stronger, so who knows whether this product will sell. Besides, some people have a case and a cover that works just fine. They may not want to buy either. I also have an answer to Chloe's question. Yes. Just because the title says "An Unbreakable Touch Screen" does NOT mean it is really unbreakable. The title is exaggerating. And, although the other companies who make money from people dropping their phones, they really couldn't do anything legal about it. I say legal because there are lots of illegal ways to sabotage a business. Overall, this article was very interesting, even though I don't think they're making it for TV's yet.
This new unbreakable touch screen is extremely important. Personally, I have known numerous people who have dropped or damaged their screens and had to buy a new iPhone or other type of phone. Phones are highly expensive and it is a pain to buy another one. This screen is a very good idea and would probably save a lot of money for people. I, for one, think that they should make unbreakable cases or something like that too. Also, something I found out while examining this article is that the potential for long-lasting batteries are exceptionally important because phones lose their battery power really quickly and to have a longer-lasting battery will help a lot. Overall, I think that this article was very interesting and helpful to understand what the future may hold.
This is really cool. I feel that this new unbreakable touch screen is a really important invention. It could save someone a lot of money if they are one to drop their phone often....like me. People come out with new innovative products each day to aid us in our daily lives. We use our phones, iPods and iPads constantly. By building this unbreakable screen, people can utilize this product in their daily lives. If someone could make this products for bigger screen like laptops and TVs, you would not have to worry about anything harming your screen. I know I would be someone to buy this product.
I think that this article is really interesting, judging by the fact that I dropped my iPod Touch screen down, and it did break. But I dropped it on concrete, so it was expected to break. Anyway, this article was interesting because many people are dropping their devices and it is costing them a lot of money, because dropping your device and having the screen crack can lead to other problems in the device, known from personal experience. It would be amazing if this product went far because not only would it be helpful to many, many people but it would definitely be a great product to have. I think that the material choice is interesting too!
This article is extremely interesting. The new touch screen could help many people save money, but I believe there is also a down side to this. It could put many screen repair shops out of business. The touch screens used today cost a lot of money, i done see why they couldn't have thought of this before. I think this invention is amazing and that it could help millions of people.
I think that it is cool that these people in Korea and Japan invented a screen that does not break easily, but when the article that the current could go through the screen I wondered if the screen could shock you. This would be a drawback so big that I would not like to buy the screen. Other than that I think that I would want a screen that is very hard to break.
I think this articule was something that everyone should know and is very helpful. I know countless numbers of people that sit on their iPod and break it. The truth is for me that there is already a case out there more protective than the screen and is less expensive. My uncle had the case for his iPhone and he was showing my other uncle how protective it is for his iPhone. In fact, he threw it across the room and the iPhone was unharmed! Also if we were to use these unbreakable screens they would run out quickly because the articule said that ITO was rare which makes it so expensive. Even though scientists are trying to find a replacement for ITO like nanotubes it won't work as well. I mean nanotubes are good for batteries but not for iPod screens.
I think it is pretty cool that they've engineered an unbreakable touch screen for phones, but I think phone and service companies would beg to differ. Since so many workers make money off of people having to buy phone replacements, profits will plummet for all phone companies. But I do think that people will love this new invention. (Notice the fancy word)
Wow, I would love to have one of those screens on my old IPod. The thing that really surprises me about this new screen is that I looked up graphene and got: "a fullerene consisting of bonded carbon atoms in sheet form one atom thick." Is that screen really one atom thick? That seems almost impossible, to make a sheet one atom thick. How would it retain it's shape? How would it be as strong as the article says it is? If the sheet is really one atom thick, I think it would be worse than common touch screens. The screen is also relatively new technology, so it won't be very cheap if it is ever sold commercially. Also, why buy this fancy touch screen if you can just buy a cheap protective case instead? This new screen is very cool, but I don't think it will sell very well.
This is an amazing invention. A breakable case for a phone means your phone will never breaks if it drops. This is very cool. An even better thing about it is what Corey mentioned earlier, IT'S CHEAP!!! Some phones have cheap cases which do nothing, they stink. However the phone case doesn't have a design it still is useful. You should buy it.
I agree with Mila on how many flaws they have. They have a better chance of backfiring than actually succeeding. This might cause people to stop buying these touch screens.
I think that creating an unbreakable touch screen is really cool but also I agree with Adam. It would be to much money to make millions of them for every phone. Even though they are really cool maybe they could try to make it again but will cheaper materials. In all I really like the idea of untouchable phone screen.
Wow! First, thank you Izzy for showing us this article. I think this is really interesting and amazing that they have come up with a way for us to have an unbreakable phone screen, but is it really unbreakable? Is there a certain limit up until the screen really does crack. Like Chloe said, is there a certain pressure limit and height limit? I hope that they will make this for all phones and for other electronic devices. Can't they have all the fun? Oh yah, one more thing... I love Taylor Swift <13 <--- 13+<3= <13. I am just so smart!
These are really cool! I would totally buy one for my phone! This gives touch screen users a whole other world. Again, this could also really mess up the technology business. If, say T-Mobile bought this new screen before anybody else the they could become the world's highest selling phone company. If Verizon buys it, it will create a huge challenge to Samsung, T-Mobile, AT&T, etc. because they will have newfound power. it could be used as a business weapon against other companies. Unlike others, I think that this will be a top seller. When people see something that is cheaper and less breakable like this I think that the USA will love a product like that! Phones are also huge internationally so if they reach 30% of Americans are 10% of Europeans they would make HUGE profits. They would be a rival to the screens we use right now, and phone companies would be all over them
Thanks Chris for the entrepreneurial insight. I agree, this could make a lot of money for whatever phone company buys it. But, this article doesn't say one thing BAD about the touch screen. There could be some MAJOR disadvantages to this touch screen. I think a better solution would be just to make better cases. My android phone has a case with a layer of rubber then a hard layer. This way when the phone is dropped, it absorbs all the shock of the fall, and still has hard protection to protect the phone itself. If you have a case that is a little thicker than your phone, the screen won't be affected at all. I think that this probably will not go into affect in the near future if ever. There are probably better replacements for the current screens of phones out there, but I think that the companies should just stick with the screens we have.
Final note: As for the price of the screen, it doesn't REALLY matter. They make some sort of profit, so whatever they are making, it is enough to buy the screen material. Customers are willing to pay a lot for a phone. Plus, the phone itself isn't the main cost of the phone. You have to pay for calling, texting, and all of the other things the make a phone a phone. This drop in price wouldn't affect the price by more than a couple hundred dollars. Also, I don't think that the screen is really UNBREAKABLE. They are probably just making a point about how durable it is.

I meant to say touch screen for every "case" i said... i also meant to say if it falls on the screen it might prevent scratches. Sorry
