Dark Energy: Is It Merely An Illusion?

Brought to you by: Eva

Changes in the rate of expansion since the universe's birth 15 billion years ago. The more shallow the curve, the faster the rate of expansion. The curve changes noticeably about 7.5 billion years ago, when objects in the universe began flying apart at a faster rate. Astronomers theorize that the faster expansion rate is due to a mysterious, dark force that is pulling galaxies apart.

This was a nice article, but kind of small. I was skeptical about everything it was saying. I do not see how "dark energy" can make the universe expand. Frankly I cannot see how the universe is always expanding. I do not believe that we are in a void, or a special place. Our solar system is similar to others. It says that some people from Oxnard University ran some tests proving that we are in a void, but tests are not always correct. I agree with Copernicus that we are in any regular place. Overall, I would have to say that this article is really pushing what scientists have been saying for years, making their research obsolete.

I liked this article a lot, but, like Nicholas said, it was kind of short. Also, I think the "dark energy" theory was just an excuse to be able to figure out what force is making the universe expand. "Dark energy" seems like some sort of weird and crazy idea from a sci-fi movie and doesn't really sound like it could happen, so I think these scientists were right about dark energy not existing.

Whoa. This article was just weird. What is "dark energy"? Why is it pushing the universe? How is it doing this? I'm still confused. I think Nicholas is right, though. Dark energy is slightly, but only slightly, more plausible than us living in a special void. I think that this is a very confusing article. It gives you so much information and then ends leaving everything unexplained.I don't understand at all. I really hope that someone would explain this article to me.

I can explain what the dark energy is after some research I did and the stuff I already knew. It can be called dark energy, but it can also be called dark matter which more people refer to. It is unknown how dark matter expands the universe, but it does explain how. I think scientists have just made up dark matter just to explain why the universe expands. Dark Matter actually spread all throughout the universe when the big bang happened. It spread throughout and when there is too little dark matter the universe will decompress down to a small point again, and explode all over again.

I researched dark energy and it turns out nobody has any idea what dark energy is. Some people think that dark matter is when subatomic quantum particles blink in and out of existence and can reappear somewhere else, which creates matter in empty space. If you hit a table a hundred quadrillion times, one time you might actually be able to put your hand through it because the particles were all somewhere else.

I know this sounds crazy, so I'm just going to stop blogging now.

That was an interesting and small article. I had no idea what dark energy was before, and now I realize how simple the idea is. I have seen in a book that the universe is made out of seventy-something percent dark matter and dark energy, which is insane, and it frustrates me that scientists still don't know what they physically are even if they think they know what they do in theory. The idea of dark matter and dark energy is mysterious and confusing, but I think that scientists will at some point somehow figure out what they are.
