Music of the Future

Brought to you by Elena

People don’t have to go to outer space to make music in new ways. Technologies using computers and sensors are being created that will let people do that right here on Earth.

This article is really amazing. It's so cool how you can make music in the air, on desks, etc. This is a great invention. Maybe people can hold concerts with this where they make music with the air. You would have to be skilled at programming to be able to program the computer, though. Not only can you make MUSIC in the air, you can order things from a diner by tapping the menu. It's also beneficial to disabled people, etc.
Maybe these can someday be used for long-distance reasons. You can order things in a diner by simply tapping on the menu, but the kitchen and the dining areas are close to each other. Maybe you could turn on a light from far away. That would be pretty cool. This could also be useful if you wanted to call someone. It could be like an air telephone. That would be amazing!
I went to a Smart Home in Chicago, and saw how all the electrical devices were green. Maybe, this device could become green. I don't know if it is already.

This article was really interesting!

I think that it was very cool. It is cool to see that you could play music with just your hands. I think that they have used a lot of technology to develop this. It is a very good idea, but I wonder how much it costs. I think that it is cool to learn how to play different types of music on just a tablet. I wonder why they would choose MUTE as an acronym. I don't think that many people want to buy something with the name MUTE. It is cool that you could turn any surface into a musical instrument. I wonder how you could actually do that though. I think that it is cool and that many people would just all of the sudden want to listen to music on any surface. That is really cool. If this system is done I wonder what form they would sell it in. There are a lot of questions that could be answered and few people who would buy it. If it is in the future, when will it come out. I think that it is a great idea. I rate it a A.

This was incredibly cool. I find it amazing that the music can be changed by just adding certain objects to it. It is creepy yet amazing and this could make great horror or suspense music. This is amazing also because I did a science project about speech waves and how they work. This really ties into that because you can play music with your hands. I agree with Corey about how this was a great idea and is really cool. I think that this is really interesting and I would give this a A++++++++++++ because of the science involved in this.

This article was very cool. to think that you can turn any surface into a musical instrument or a switch by just tapping on it. I would have liked to understand how the laser sensors work a little bit more like how many do you have to set up, how big are they, can you enable or disable them easily, and if there are different size beams for different places. This video was very interesting and cool to think that this technology exists. I hope to have this technology one day and I rate this article an A-.

That was cool. It is amazing how you an make different sounds just by tapping your hands in a specific place. Like Adam said, I think they could have gone more in depth in some places. I also agree with Jahan about this having a lot of science in it. The science and technology in my opinion is so amazing! This article was really interesting!

It would so cool to have different spots be a part of music. Imagine, you can make a simple work desk feel like a full size drum set. If they had this already, I would out it on everything. Even though you can already make "drum sounds" when you spank a leather couch that sound similar, with this invention, you can make it sound like the actual thing. Although it's amazing abilities, the name MUTE might not be a very good product title for this kind of invention. It also won't be very good for marketing. Overall, a really cool and interesting article.

So to sum it up you tap a table or object and the sound waves bounce back to the computer and you can program the computer to make a certain sound when it receives the same sound waves again. Awesome. But I still don't get how you can tap air to make a sound. Air doesn't produce sound therefore it cannot make sound waves or vibrations that the computer can process. That is my opinion on MUTE. Now for TAI-CHI I understand that the sensors pinpoint the exact place where you tapped something using senors attached to the thing you tapped. While MUTE pinpoints the side of the location you tapped. To me it sounds like TAI-CHI is just a giant iPad because they use the same touch screen technology, but it doesn't have applications. I am pretty sure disney world did something like the TAI-CHI method for their new Fantasyland restaurant. Customers tap in their orders on a giant pad or screen and it delivers the order to a computer in the kitchen that processes the order and which table it comes from. I think this articule was very interesting and useful.
