Meteor Explodes Over Russia

A meteor streaks across the sky over Russia on Friday morning. The fireball was the largest known to have detonated in the atmosphere since 1908.

I actually read this article in a newspaper because my dad pointed it out. In the article, I read it said that 1,000 people were injured, and in the article I read before about this said the same thing. It also said that most of the injuries were because of glass. This is because they went to their windows to see what all of the commotion was about and when the meteor exploded, it shattered the glass. I am partly happy that no one that I know is from Russia because I know that they are not injured, but another part of me feels sad that many people probably lost a person that is close to them.
I am also happy that this is not like the 2012 DA14 and that it is way smaller. What would happen then? Would it hit different places and not only Russia? How many people would get injured THEN? Would it kill the people that got injured (if that makes sense)? This meteor kind of scares me, as well, because what if next time a meteor explodes over North America. What would happen? How many people would die?

This was very scary. I heard that the meteor just missed us and instead hit Russia. I agree with savannah, this must be really scary and what might happen next...? anything could happen. 1,000 people DIED from this meteor and I feel really bad.

1,000 people got injured...it must have been really scary. What's going to happen when the 2012 DA14 explodes?

I think that it was really cool that an actual meteor hit the Earth. I also think that it is scary that 1,000 people got hurt. On the last blog there was an article saying that it would miss us. Now, all of the sudden it hits Russia. That is really cool but really scary. I also wonder how big in comparison this was to some other big ones. I wonder how many more meteors will hit planet Earth.

Oh my god. That was just so loud. Imagine how freaked out they must have been! And 1,00 people were injured. That's just horrible. I hope no one dies. The glass broke and everything was exploding. Also, the article was unclear. I thought the meteor exploded.. If it had hit Earth, a bunch of people would be dead, not just injured. Also, I think DA14 will miss us. The last article was probably about DA14. If a meteor exploded, it would probably be the same as Russia. What if it exploded over China? That would be bad. Anyway, I hope that everyone is alright. This article was a bit scary.

I also read this in the newspaper. It is so interesting that it exploded even before it hit the ground. Many people were injured also and it seemed devastating to me.

That must have been surprising for the people living in that Russian city. I heard many loud booms in the video, were they sonic booms, or an explosion in the air, or the meteor hitting the earth? Was that big circular cloud from one of those three ideas? I heard car alarms going off everywhere after the first boom, which gives me an idea of how much force this event was. I wonder what would happen if something like this happened in the middle of Los Angeles. How much damage would be dealt, how much money would be spent on the event, and how much would that affect the economy?

This is amazing. I thought that it was nearly impossible for a meteor that big to hit the earth. Wouldn't it break up in the atmosphere? And then the when it said that it was more powerful than a nuclear bomb, I was amazed. What happens if we get hit by one, what are the chances? Should we be prepared?

OMG! It would have been really cool and scary to be there. I would have run for my life when the glass broke and the big boom. It is sad that people had to be injured just because of an obnoxious meteor. The one thing that was weird is the way the meteor exploded, it exploded and made an horizontal mark not just a big circle. I thought this was really cool and I pray for the people who were injured. Overall, very interesting and sad.

Even though this person probably recorded this for the sake of youtube, I think that it was very dumb of his to be so close to his GLASS window. (not that all windows aren't glass)
If the meteor were to break the glass of his window even more than it already did, that man would be very injured. Meteors are something that no one can really stop because that is the atmosphere's job, and if the atmosphere can't do it, a human or a machine can definetley not do it.
What if, though, if one day, someone did make an extra (super strong) "atmosphere-like" thing that would go around the earth. I'm sure that would be VERY costly, and VERY time-consuming, but it's just a thought. What if, one day, we are able to catch the meteor even before it comes near earth, and possibly make expensive goods out of it such as: jewelry, places, toasters, etc.? Then it would reimburse the money spent for making the man-made atmosphere.
I am very sorry for the people that lost their loved ones, and for the injured ones.
Overall, I think that this article was very cool, but it was also sad.
