'Print' Almost Anything

Brought to you by Izzy

For Valentine’s Day this year, a Japanese company used a 3-D printer to produce chocolate copies of people’s faces. Credit: FabCafe/Think 3D/K’s Design Lab

I though that this was super cool! I new that 3-D printers were being made but I didn't now that you could the things that came out of, like the chocolate that they "printed"! I think that if this was super common everybody would go crazy about and the economy would sink to its lowest. The reason being is that everybody who had the printer would not need to pay for anything because they could just print it, even new ink!!! I think that it is very cool, but a bad invention. Everyone will lose their jobs and nobody will need any money. Everything will be wasted and nobody will go into the fresh air to go and buy something because they can print it on their chocolate making contraption. All in all this is super cool but people need to think more about what will happen if you can have all of your wishes by printing something. This will totally ruin the gun rule because you won't need to go get your permit you can print one! Everything bad in this world will be in you fingertips. I don't like this invention. It is a scary thought to think that everything could go down the drain with this one silly invention. Once again, I think that this would ruin our economy and make us all crazy in the head. : (

I'm thinking they probably put in chocolate in a certain box thing and then they would put a picture in a different thing, then later it would form chocolate into looking like a picture.

This is really cool because the food that it prints put is actually edible i'm amazed by there new sense of technology, but there is a bad thing to this. If a criminal decides to print unlimited amount of guns and then when everybody starts to do that it will turn into chaos... just chaos

I think this is an amazing and revolutionary product. It will literally change the world, and how everything works. It kind of scares me to know that people can print almost anything! It makes me feel a little weird to think that they can print a beating heart with just regular materials. These hearts could possibly save peoples lives if they can take in our natural blood flow. This product could also lose a lot of jobs and businesses. If you see a dress on the internet that is $1,000 dollars but you really want it, you can just print it out. People won't have to spend their money on buying new stuff. If you were to print out a cantaloupe, would it poison you if you ate it? It is not natural at all, and could probably upset your stomach. Same with automobiles, they say you can print out a car, and that will make automobile companies go out of business because they can get it for free from their printer. Also how long do these things last? If you printed out a beating heart, would it last your entire life, or would it go beyond human years? Will the house that you printed out break down five years from now? You never know how people are going to use this printer.

I have heard about this before, well at least the body parts part. There was a PBS video my brother showed me that had the them printing the body parts as an experiment. I also think this is kinda related to another blog article about the rat lung. Because scientists are not only trying rebuilding organs they are also trying to reprint them. Well, Mila the printer business would be very expensive ;) And also the printers are very very very expensive to buy and create so I dont think that time is anywhere close. So even the poorest of people will need that printer for that to happen. Because if there are still some people out there who can not afford that there will be stores for those people to buy from. In addition, you need money to buy printers and ink and all the supplies to create what you need. I have researched this before; you need programming experience and the supplies for the things you want to print. Basically there will still need to be grocery stores, electronic stores, material stores. This might change up the economy but it would not make it crazier than it already is (Thats beside the point) Basically I dont think that is going to happen, at least not anytime soon. These printers you are talking about are around 3,000 dollars, and to maintain them would be costly. Just try to think about the people who could barely afford food they could not be able to buy these printers. You need money to buy these printers and if all the business close down no on would have a job and gain money to maintain and buy these printers with. So they would never get rid of jobs.

Well it making chocolate with this printer would cost more than just buying one. Making the dress would be more than just to buy it. So you might as well buy stuff. I would be impressive to me if a 3D printer could make a phone or an ipod. This also would not be bad for you because a printer just uses ink, and if you lets say replace the ink with chocolate it would be doing the same thing except with chocolate. As long as the machine is clean there would be no ink or other things to poison people. I dont think it would lose jobs or business one thing can not take out the whole business environment. (That is ridiculous) It could wipe out some a lot of business but some will remain and people would just find a way to make new jobs. I think it might wipe out plenty of jobs but they will find a way to replace all of that. And also the printer can not yet make big things like cars or houses. That day will some just not too soon.

and people could never get these thing "for free" form their printer. they have to pay for maintaining the printer and the supplies to make the printer

I think that this isn't that big of a deal (the chocolate part), because all you need to do, is print a picture, make a mold of it and put melted chocolate in there. This is just a longer process, but it is basically the same thing this printer is doing. And making the body parts is probably not reliable AT ALL... Limbs are probably easier to make, but they wouldn't be able to grow. However, organs... I don't think anyone would really want a printed organ in their body. And if you were to make something through this printer, it would cost so much more to make it, than to buy it. The mantinence fee would be a lot, the materials would be a lot, and the printer itself would cost a lot as well. Making something (that is originalyl) expensive would not be such a great idea as well, because there is a reason that item is expensive. For example, if you were to buy a pair of leather flats, they're goig to be expensive because they are leather. To buy the leather, buy the design pattern to make the shoes, and to buy all the other material needed to make the shoes, is going to cost much more than just buying the shoes. So I think that people need to stop getting their hopes up, because this printer isn't happening anytime soon. People making this need to find a way to not make it as costly, and to make it work as much as it is worth.

Wow! This is really cool! I had no idea that you could use all types of materials to print something. I think that Mirman will have a 3D printer next year. I wonder how this invention will turn out later because maybe it will ruin the economy because we will make our own toys and clothing at home or maybe it is even better because we still need the raw materials to print out what we want, so we have to buy them. I wonder if the printer can create plants too because you can use certain cells to create a heart, or liver, but could that also be the same for plants? This was an interesting article.

Actually Chloe :) my brother has this video i can show you of scientists getting the organs to work and testing them out on rats. Which actually worked. The printer's organ might not be as reliable as the persons/rats first ones but they do work...

This is really cool. I love this new 3-D printing technology because you can create a three dimensional object with a machine. I also like that you can make things out of chocolate. I think it's really cool that they are using this technology for toys, cars, and even for medical use. If we made a giant, fast three dimensional printer we could use it to build almost anything. The only downside of all this is that it would really change the economy. A ton of things could drop in value by a lot.

3-D printing is a really interesting subject to talk about. I have a friend who went to a 3-D printer and has a little pink shark, a bracelet, and a chain. That's really cool. The thing is, it's not that easy to make a 3-D print because you have to design a picture of what you want your object to look like first. But you design it digitally. That's much harder to do with all the dimensions and everything and it would be easier to just draw it. I would love to have a 3-D printer and just make different things all the time. Like some people said, this could ruin to economy, but I asked my friend who went to one, and making only a small bracelet took 30 minutes. Would people really want to wait for a bracelet for that long, if it lost its specialty because everyone had a 3-D printer? It is worth it to wait for a very long time to get clothes or toys? Even if people tried to make bigger things with the printers, they would have to pay more money for the printers themselves and the materials, so it would be easier to just go out to the store and buy things. The edible objects, though, that actually would be kind of nice. But then again, it would take a long time to make one since the process is like adding layers and layers of string to something, which can forever.

I really would love to experiment with a 3-D printer. Hopefully they will become more popular soon.
