This is interesting that a bacteria eats poison and poops out gold, but the reason gold is worth a pretty penny is that it is rare. If these bacteria were to be kept in labs, and kept producing gold, then gold's value would be reduced. Therefore, I don't think that this is such a good thing. If it were to reduce gold's value, then there would be no point in continuing the process of using the bacteria. They would stop for a while, and then after the price had gone up again, they would repeat the process.

Eventually, people would run out of money and the resources needed for the experiment.

I know that this may seem like a giant important discovery on how mankind is going to suddenly become more wealthy than we already are. I mean think about this, in the grand scheme or things, is this really gonna make a difference? Us humans are smart enough to have found gold already, and even if we can't mass produce it, we should just except that gold isn't going to become as popular as McDonalds our of the blew just because a little bateria is slowly pooping out our precious metal. Like Alyssa said, this bacteria is found at the bottom of the ocean. We would have to be constantly going down and bringing this stuff back up. An then, to top that off, the bacteria we are bringing up from thousands of feet underwater, is toxic. I honestly don't think that this experiment is going to be anymore successful, or probably less successful than when somebody came up with idea to put a very small amount of gold into little glass canister and sell these canisters at Sacramento to the tourists. And, we would also be aware that this would have been a bigger deal and that it was worth telling the world about and actually using the experiment to our own benefits. Like I said before, some people just have crazy minds and they and everybody needs to except the fact that you will never be able to buy gold at a gas station in the ghost town of Calico on your way to Vegas from Los Angeles.

Not dangerous to the touch but I don't know it's just an inkling I have. But still we shouldn't get our hopes up the gold particules are too tiny and the bacteria is hard to get but then again it did say they eat the toxic 25 more times than any other bacteria so that may produce more gold nuggets. And adding to why we shouldn't do this type of thing is it is also expensive and dangerous. I mean having people around dangerous chemicals that are fed to a toxic bacteria? That was an interesting article. I think that even though the toxic liquid may be incredible because it "creates" gold, it takes gold to make gold. I think the most useful part of this idea is to use the toxic waste and eliminate some portion of it from our earth. This idea seems more like a foundation for other better improved ideas with the same concept, kind of like the invisibility cloak prototype. Scientists could take the idea and improve it, but the original idea and discovery came from this toxic liquid. I also agree with many other comments: if scientists did take the idea and improve it to create more gold than the toxic liquid eats, the idea would keep improving over time and gold would become less precious over time. Maybe the improvements would get to the point where people could create large amounts of gold with normal household items, and then gold would be practically worthless. Overall, the idea is cool, but there are downsides to it.

Good side- The way I understood it, the gold helped the environment. Technically, this discovery hits two birds with one stone! Not only does this discovery help the environment, at the very same time it is gold! I mean who doesn't like gold?
